Looking for a Bonsy Alternative? Receipt Apps in Germany Compared
If you are looking for an alternative to Bonsy, you will mostly find epap, wunderbon and Bonstructer. All of them scan receipts – Bonstructer goes further: you ask your receipts questions in a chat, check what you paid against current offers in your region, share a notebook with your household, and use everything in the browser, on Android and on the iPhone with the same account. Ads are off, and your data is not passed on.
What does Bonstructer do beyond a scan app?
- Ask your receipts in chat. "What did I spend at Edeka this month?", "What got more expensive?", "What can I cook from my last shop?" – the answer comes with tables and charts from your own item lines, not just totals. The AI writes answers based on your receipts and can be wrong; you check totals in the notebook.
- Price check after the scan. Bonstructer compares each line with public offers in your postcode region and with your own price history. Overpaid? The receipt tells you. It is not complete and doesn't see discounts in apps such as Lidl Plus or Payback.
- Shopping list and recipes from your receipts. A list for your supermarket built from what you buy regularly, or a recipe from what you just bought.
- One notebook for the whole household. A shared notebook, and splitting a receipt without typing in who owes whom.
- Every source, item by item. Camera, QR eReceipt, photo, PDF, email or text – including long, crumpled or faded receipts. Every item line gets a price and a category and is searchable.
- Reports and export. Send a receipt by email with photo and all lines, items as a CSV table, monthly spending by category.
- The same account everywhere. Scan on your phone, look it up on your computer: web app in any browser, Android app, and on the iPhone as an app on the home screen – no download, no store.
- Your data stays yours. No ads, no tracking pixels, no passing on or selling of data. Servers in Frankfurt, and we say openly which AI answers the chat.
Which receipt apps are there as a Bonsy alternative?
Bonstructer is a receipt notebook with chat: capture receipts by camera, QR eReceipt, photo, PDF or text, search every item line with price and category, and ask in the chat – about spending per shop, price increases, a shopping list or a recipe. On top come the price check against public offers in your region, shared notebooks for the household and reports by email.
Bonsy comes from marktguru Deutschland GmbH. According to its App Store description, the app scans receipts, analyses spending by product category, supports shared household profiles and exports data as CSV and XLS. According to a May 2026 press release, there is an AI assistant in the chat that answers questions about spending and shows price increases for regularly bought items.
epap (epap Analytics GmbH, Berlin) receives digital receipts at partner tills and scans printed ones, according to its website. It also offers a household budget book, export for tax, warranty and returns, plus cashback for surveys and for sharing receipts with brands.
wunderbon describes itself as a "privacy wallet" for receipts. According to its website, receipts are captured by scan or email, and the data is encrypted and stored on servers in the EU.

When does Bonstructer fit?
- You want more than a bottom-line total. Bonstructer knows every item line and answers questions about it in the chat – spending per shop, products that got pricier, a shopping list, a recipe.
- You want to know whether you paid too much. The price check compares your receipt with offers in your region and your own price history.
- You want to scan on your phone and look things up on your computer – with the same account in the browser, on Android and on the iPhone. How that works without a download is explained in the guide Receipt app in the browser.
- You share receipts in a household or flat share (WG): shared notebook, split a receipt, who owes whom.
- You want to read openly where your data goes – ads off, no passing on, no selling. More in the guide Digital budget book with privacy in mind.
Cashback and digital receipts straight at the partner till are the focus of epap – if that is mainly what you want, it is the right place.
What should you watch for when switching?
- Export your data from the old app before you delete it – as far as it offers an export.
- Keep important original receipts (warranty, expensive purchases) independently of any app.
- Read the privacy policy: who processes photos, who handles AI requests, where are the servers, is data passed on?
- Check how the app makes money: ads, data sharing, subscription or optional credits – and what happens to your receipts if you delete the account.

FAQ
Which receipt app is the best?
That depends on what you need. If you want to ask your receipts questions in a chat, check prices against offers, share a notebook with your household and work in the browser, on Android and on the iPhone with one account, Bonstructer fits. For cashback at the partner till, epap is the obvious choice. It is best to try it with a few real receipts.
Does Bonstructer run on the iPhone?
Yes. Open Bonstructer in Safari, tap Share and then "Add to Home Screen". After that Bonstructer starts like an app with its own icon – no download and no store. There is no native iPhone app. The login is the same as on the web and on Android, and your receipts are the same everywhere.
Is there a Bonstructer app for Android?
The Android app is currently in closed testing on Google Play. In the meantime the web app works in your Android browser and can be installed to the home screen. The same account works in the browser and on the iPhone.
Does Bonstructer connect to my bank?
No. Bonstructer works with the receipt instead of the bank account, so it sees individual items, not just the total. There is no bank connection.
What does Bonstructer cost in comparison?
Basic use is free, with no subscription – and without ads or passing on your data in return. Some extra and AI features use credits (AIC); the app shows the price beforehand. Bonsy, epap and wunderbon are offered free of charge according to the providers.
