Import receipts into your finance software
Receipts get into your finance program by exporting them as a QIF or CSV file and importing that into a separate cash account. Each receipt becomes one transaction, split by category. In Bonstructer you pick program and period under More → Export to finance software and get the matching file.
Why isn't the bank transaction enough?
Your statement shows one amount per shop: "REWE €63.40". Whether that was groceries, toiletries, drinks or a present, your program can't tell. The receipt knows the lines. Once it is captured, each line has a category and the export adds up the totals per category.
What does a receipt look like in the program?
Each receipt becomes one transaction with date, shop as payee and receipt total. Below it sit splits, one per category, with the items in the memo (cut to 64 characters):
- Groceries: −€38.12 (milk, bread, apples, cheese …)
- Toiletries: −€9.85 (toothpaste, dish soap)
- Drinks: −€15.43 (mineral water, juice)
If the lines don't add up to the total, for example after a discount on the whole shop, the rest becomes a split "difference to receipt total" under Other. The transaction always matches the receipt to the cent.
Which format fits which program?
| Program | Format | Note |
|---|---|---|
| WISO Mein Geld | QIF | split transactions by category |
| MoneyMoney | QIF | import into an offline account |
| Lexware FinanzManager | QIF | like WISO |
| StarMoney, Banking4 | CSV | map columns once on import |
| GnuCash | QIF | GnuCash variant |
| HomeBank, KMyMoney, Moneydance | QIF | choose day-month-year dates |
| Quicken | QIF (US) | US dates and decimal point |
| Excel, Numbers, others | CSV | UTF-8, semicolon |
| DATEV (tax advisor) | Buchungsstapel | SKR03, cash account 1000 |
Step by step
- Capture receipts: photo, PDF or digital eBon. Lines are read and given categories; fix any with a tap.
- Open the export: More → Export to finance software.
- Pick program and period: this or last month, this or last year, or a custom range.
- Create a cash account called "Kassenbons" in your program, so receipts don't sit next to the bank transactions in your current account.
- Import the file into that account. With CSV you map the columns the first time.
Won't my spending be counted twice?
- Transfer: turn the card payment in your current account into a transfer to "Kassenbons". Categories then come only from the receipt.
- Reporting only: exclude the receipt account from net worth and use it just for category reports.
Checklist
- A separate cash account, not your current account.
- Check categories before exporting.
- Whole periods, no overlap.
- Card payments as transfers, or the receipt account excluded from totals.

Frequently asked questions
Which programs does the export support?
WISO Mein Geld, MoneyMoney, StarMoney, Lexware FinanzManager, Banking4, GnuCash, HomeBank, KMyMoney, Moneydance and Quicken, plus a generic CSV for spreadsheets and a DATEV batch for your tax advisor.
Is the export free?
Yes, the export itself costs nothing. In Bonstructer the first 20 scans are free; after that a scan costs about 2–3 cents in credits (AIC), and every charge shows in the history. No subscription needed.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. Bonstructer never connects to your bank account. The file is built only from your receipts and you import it yourself.
